My Updates
Job done: 48 laps of Hampton Downs
Monday 12th Oct
Sunday was the day. Four hours on the circuit at Hampton Downs, a track built for things with engines, and me with just the legs.
The numbers, for those who like them:
- 48 laps of the 2.7 km circuit, just under 130 km
- 3:59:22 on the clock
- 39th of 200 riders overall, 28th of 115 in the Open category
- A bit over 30 km/h average, 60 km/h top speed
- Around 950 m of climbing (it's not as flat as it looks on TV)
- Average lap just under 5 minutes, fastest just over 4
- About 2,900 calories burned, since replaced
The early laps were quick, the middle laps were honest, and the last hour was mostly about keeping the pedals turning until the chequered flag came out. For the record, the Crocs came off before the start.
It was a great event with a great bunch of people, all out there for the same reason. That reason hasn't changed. I've got good mates living with prostate cancer, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation does its work with no government funding. Together we raised $349 for them, which pays for things like nurse-led helpline calls, counselling and physio for men in recovery.
A huge thank you to my sponsors: Katie, Evonne, Hils, Mel, Sean, Alec and Blair. Every lap was a bit easier knowing you were behind me.
One last ask, and it costs nothing. If you're a bloke over 50, or over 40 with a family history, talk to your GP about getting checked. And if you know one, give him a nudge.
Thanks for getting behind the ride.

Why I'm riding
Tuesday 29th Sep
I’m taking part in Pedal4Prostate to help raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
I’ve got good mates who have been through prostate cancer treatment and who continue to manage it and get on with life. Seeing that firsthand makes this cause feel very real.
Like a lot of men, I’m probably better at getting on a bike than talking about health, so this is a good way to do both. I’ll be putting in the kilometres, raising a few dollars, and hopefully helping encourage more men to get checked and have the conversations that matter.
If you can donate, share the page, or simply help spread the message, it all helps.
Thanks for getting behind the ride.
