I'm hoping to walk the Central Otago Rail Trail during the month of March, in memory of my beautiful father, Mike Riddell, who lost his fight with prostate cancer in March 2022, 3 days after his birthday. My Dad was the most amazing man I've ever met. And losing him was devastating. We lose too many good men to this insidious disease. Please help me raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ. I know Dad found their support and aroha invaluable.


I'm currently on a health and wellbeing journey, and have decided to push outside my comfort zone, and attempt a walk I never would have dreamed of 10 weeks ago. During the month of March, I will be walking the 152km trail from Clyde to Middlemarch. Get in touch if you'd like to do a section with me! Four weeks today...

Monday 2nd Feb
My Dad was my hero. He taught me to love deeply, work hard, laugh always, and be creative. He lived his life with compassion, honesty, and acceptance for all people. Dad was a story teller with an immaculate skill for the written word. His books had you laughing out loud then deep in reflection.

In 2017, everything changed when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and given 12 months to live. We were fortunate that he stuck around a bit longer, and ultimately he died from a heart attack caused by the medication he took for the cancer.

In March 2022, Dad left this earth, but my goodness did he have a lot to live for. Prostate cancer is one of our biggest killers for men. I'm hoping that with this upcoming walk (four weeks today!), we can raise some money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ, who were a great source of support for Dad, and also raise awareness of how important it is for our men to get tested. Please don't put it off. It's something that can be treated if caught early. Do it for your families, your children, your partners and your friends. Love and light xoxo

Thursday 15th Jan
Somehow we've already arrived at mid January, which means only 6 weeks until my walk begins.

I will commence on Sunday 1st March, walking from Clyde to Chatto Creek, 23kms should take just over five hours. I'm delighted to have people coming to walk this section with me. Please do get in touch if you're keen to come along. 

I've been doing a few practice runs, and each time it gets tough, I feel Dad right beside me, cheering me on. Dad had everything to live for, but he didn't get that chance. I'm hoping that this journey not only raises funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ, but also encourages men to get checked, and encourages women to pester your men to get checked! Prostate cancer takes too many lives, and the loss is devastating.
